How it all started

It began when I started applying for jobs after qualifying as a teacher. I wasn't getting interviews, despite having a higher level of degree than my friends, who were getting them. My husband suggested it was because I was ticking the box for "disabled" on the Equal opportunity form.

What I did to try to overcome it

I stopped ticking the box to say I was disabled and I was offered over ten interviews within a couple of weeks.

How it made me feel

Disgusted. The Council I live within has a policy that they must interview all disabled people who apply for the jobs, but they aren't abiding by that. Even more so now, as I'm now in a wheelchair and can't get employment at all.

The outcome

No.
