How it all started

I was discriminated against from birth. Doctors tried to bully my mum to abort me because I have Down’s syndrome. Discrimination starts from birth and lasts our entire life. I’ve had hate crimes committed against me just because of Down’s syndrome. I have people talk to me as if I were a 5 year old. I’m 22 years old. It’s patronising.

What I did to try to overcome it

The hate crime was caught on CCTV at the train station. Surrey police cautioned the people that attacked me.

How it made me feel

Angry and very sad.

The outcome

No, nothing changed. Surrey police advised me to not take public transport on my own. I refused to stop being independent. I’m not allowing haters to keep me from living my life.
